Welcome to La Basse Meslerais - Villamée, 35
Our two gites, former Breton Longères, are full of character and are situated in the wonderful countryside which nestles within the borders of Brittany, Normandy and Mayenne only 35 minutes from Mont Saint-Michel.
They are recently renovated and offer our visitors every comfort, with the additional benefit of being situated in a peaceful, intimate and harmonious environment.
This area offers a wealth of wonderful places to visit, from the historical town of Fougères with it's magnificent mediaeval chateau to the northern coast and The Bay of Mont Saint-Michel
Who are we?
Chris and Lesley, the english owners, occupy the 300 year old farmhouse which is adjacent to our two lovely gîtes.
We have two daughters, cats, chickens and some lovely Toulouse geese.
We recently rescued 4 ex battery hens who arrived in a very sorry state but they are settling in well to their new free range life and they are starting to grow new feathers.
Our free range eggs are available for visitors to buy.
We are happy to share this wonderful setting with our visitors together with our growing local knowledge.

Where are we?
From the ferry ports you can expect to arrive in approximately the following times:
Caen - 1hr 50
Calais - 4hr 30
Cherbourg - 2 hrs
Le Havre - 2 hrs
Saint Malo - 1 hr
From the airports you can expect to arrive in approximately the following times:
Rennes - St Jâques - 50 mins
Nantes - 2 hours
Dinard - 1 hr 15
Car Hire is available at the airports and can be reserved on-line with either Flybe or Ryanair when you book your flight.
Situated 14 kms from Fougères and 45 kms from Mont Saint-Michel in a pretty coutryside location surrounded by established trees.
We are 5 kms from Louvigné-du-Désert and its local shops:
A supermarket, bakers, butchers, newsagent, post office, bars, crèperie, pharmacies............................
and
2 kms from our own village of Villamée with the ancient church of Saint Martin whose construction was begun at the end of the 10th C by the monks from Mont St Michel. This church is one of the few in Ille et Vilaine which has two arches to house its bells.
In Villamée you will find a small shop selling basic groceries which adjoins the bar-tabac and a newly constructed restaurant 'Au Fil de l'Eau' - so named because it is close to the nearby stream - The restaurant opened for business in February 2009 and offers a set menu each lunchtime.
Our non-smoking Gîtes La Fleur and Le Pot de Miel are tastefully decorated and offer our visitors every comfort.
The gîtes overlook a large courtyard - which is centred by an ancient granite apple press - and here you can find the outdoor Canadian Hot Tub Spa. The Hot Tub is kept at a temperature of 38° C, features over 40 high powered jets and comfortably accommodates 4 adults.
Due to health and safety reasons children under the age of 10 years may not use the Hot Tub.
In the courtyard you can also find the barbecue area and pétanque court.
Each gîte has it's own garden furniture and parasol for you to enjoy 'al fresco' eating during those balmy summer evenings. If you climb up to the meadow you will find the splash pool, sun loungers, swings, and lots of space for the children to enjoy. We have a separate shared laundry room with extra freezer space, plenty of books, board games and an assortment of outdoor games - including boules.
Bookings are by the week but we can also offer week-end and mid-week breaks out of the high seasons and also overnight stop-overs for those of you who may be heading further south (subject to availability.)
Bed and Breakfast is available in the gîtes out of the high seasons - €50 per room per night - breakfast included.
Whilst towels are included in your rental costs could we please request that you bring your own for use at the beach or in the Hot Tub.
We are sorry but we are unable to accommodate pets at La Basse Meslerais.
