Set amidst 3 acres of beautifully landscaped gardens and orchard, surrounded by woodland and fields, Brittany Thatched Cottages is a stunning group of traditional stone and thatched detached cottages.
The cottages have been tastefully converted into LUXURY gite accommodation whilst retaining their traditional Breton architecture and style as found in Morbihan, southern Brittany.
The 17th Century hamlet, originally belonging to the local Chateau de Jacquelot, currently offers one 4-bedroom and one 3-bedroom luxurious and spacious detached stone-built thatched cottages/gites as self-catering accommodation.
The owners Neil & Tricia Young who live permanently onsite in ‘Maison Principal’, the third thatched cottage in the hamlet, are available during your stay to provide help and guidance if required.
A large 12.2m x 6.1m rectangular heated swimming pool is located within the old orchard. The pool is an ideal size for both serious swimming and recreational swimming and being shared by only two cottages, its large dimensions provide ample space for everyone to enjoy. The 18m x 8m Telescopic Shelter which covers the pool enables an enjoyable swim in a warm, comfortable and sheltered environment from April through to November.
The retractable shelter is opened during the summer months, or on demand, to provide open air swimming.
Ideal for families, family get-togethers in either shared accommodation or using both cottages, holidaying with a group of friends, enjoying a golfing break or fishing trip with colleagues or simply enjoying the spacious accommodation as a couple, these luxury cottages/gites have ample to offer.
Local French caterers are on hand to provide buffet catering, hot & cold a la carte menus, celebration cakes etc to enhance a special occasion or simply provide a break from self catering.
Le Helleguy’s luxury cottages/gites are an ideal place to spend a winter let or CHRISTMAS BREAK with family or friends, away from the season’s usual commercial hustle and bustle. Imagine a large feature fireplace, with roaring log fire, rooms festively decorated with fresh pine and mistletoe helping to create a festive feel to what could truly be a different Christmas experience for the family.
Traditional French buffet cuisine can be pre-ordered for delivery to the cottages from local caterers, to add authentic festive flavour of your Christmas en France.
The cottages 3 acres of landscaped gardens, shared by only two cottages, provide ample space and peaceful, relaxing areas in which to unwind or enjoy a picnic or BBQ with the family.
Children can play safely in the orchard, with swings and plenty of space to run and ’kick a ball’, without disturbing other residents. A host of garden games are available to keep the family entertained and amused.
An additional pond garden with feature waterfall & stream provides a further tranquil and therapeutic area in which to escape and relax. The pond garden is secure from toddlers with access via bolted gates.
Complementary Therapies (Massage & Reflexology) and Beauty Treatments are available at the cottage from qualified on-site Practitioners. Why not pamper yourself during your stay, relax in our tranquil surroundings and receive therapies and treatments of your choice? Massage and/or Reflexology are a perfect way to unwind after a long day’s excursion, or a day on the golf course.
Alternatively, in Mid and Low seasons, ‘Indulgence Breaks’ are available where we can personally tailor a package of treatments to suit individual requirements, for those who wish to enjoy a holiday dedicated towards relieving the stress and pressure of everyday hectic lives, achieving maximum relaxation and revitalisation.
The nearby village of Quistinic is 3 km away where local produce and supplies can be purchased and village life sampled. The larger towns of Baud, 12km away and Bubry, 6km away provide a wider range of shops, supermarkets, bars, cinema and swimming pool.
Within a leisurely ½ hour stroll of Le Helleguy is a wonderful traditional bar/creperie where holiday makers can mingle and chat with the locals, sample the local cider and taste a variety of deliciously filled crepes (all at a very reasonable price).
For those in search of beaches, southern Brittany has lots to offer, with many sheltered coves and long stretches of fine sand.
Port Louis beach is only 30 minutes drive away and similarly, the popular sandy beaches of Carnac can be reached within 40 minutes.
The coastline is often varied, alternating between capes and sandy coves, much favoured by family holiday makers.
Larmor Plage near Lorient has a busy water-sports centre, a favourite for surfboarding and sailing whilst further down the coast at St Pierre Quiberon is the home of the National Sailing School and the sand-carting club, UCPA.
For the more active or adventurous, why not consider an activity holiday pursing one of the many activities available locally? Fishing on the River Blavet, (just 1 of the 28 fishing areas in the vicinity which provides all types of angling), with daily or weekly permits available. Walking, horse riding or cycling along the many river paths or through woodland, on pre-marked trails.
Golfing holidays are increasingly popular and Morbihan has 8 superbly maintained golf courses/links, 6 of which are within easy travelling distance of Le Helleguy(1 within 10 minutes drive). There is a wide range of challenging 18 hole courses situated within a variety of coastal and inland countryside. Saint Laurent, situated in a beautiful forest of pine and oak trees, was a chosen venue for the French professional championships in 1988 & 1989, as well as for the National Open in 1995.
For history enthusiasts, Le Helleguy is also an ideal base for visiting many of the historic towns and chateaux of Brittany. Many, such as Josselin, Rochefort-en-Terre, Vannes and Auray have managed to retain their medieval centres and character almost allowing one to step back in time as you walk through cobbled streets and observe the detailed wood carvings on the half-timbered houses. Vannes also offers a superb market, twice weekly, where local produce can be purchased and a variety of fresh fish bought from the fish hall.
Brittany and in particular, Morbihan, is also famous for the volume and variety of Neolithic remains, from 5000 B.C., including many Tumuli, Menhirs, Dolmens and the famous alignments of Carnac.
Evidence of the pilgrimage routes through Brittany heading towards San Juan de Compostela (Spain) are still visible amidst a fascinating wealth of religious monuments and buildings.
