We are situated in central west Brittany, area twenty nine Finistere, on the edge of the village of Loqueffret in the Armorique National Park, a friendly relaxed village with its own Tabac/shop for daily fresh bread and croissants, a butcher, post office, garage and a beautiful 16th century church. We also have there a museum providing information about the national park, including the nearby lakes and the famous Nantes canal.
Just 30 Minutes drive from the medieval city of Quimper and the white sandy beaches of the west coast and many picturesque places of interest. The famous Brest/Nantes canal is also just a short drive away.
Finistère incorporates the north, west and south coast of Brittany. With dramatic coast line, from rugged cliffs to white sandy beaches. Drive through rolling countryside of the Armorique nation park with the outstanding beauty of its natural forest and Brittany's highest mountain the Monts D'arree. Discover small villages hidden from view by forests of huge trees. The Finistère region is remarkably untouched and undeveloped, with wonderful ancient towns and churches to visit. The coast is a "must visit", offering astonishing sea views of estuaries and bays. A great place for walking, cycling (Cycles provided), fishing (lakes nearby), bird watching, golf and sightseeing.
A 45 minute drive from the port of Roscoff where Brittany ferries are offering special offers for 3-5 days travel. Just 2 hours drive from the walled town of St. Malo where the channel islanders can take advantage of the new HD ferries competitive prices and get in some shopping on a short break.
50 minutes from Brest airport now rapidly expanding to offer direct flights to most regional airports.
One hour from St Briec airport flights to the channel islands. Other airports within a short drive are Quimper and Lorient.
BEACHES - As a French holiday region Brittany runs a close second to the Cote d’Azur with more than 1,000km of sand, far more than the Rivera offers and less crowded. Within 30 minutes drive the beaches of Finistere offer white sandy beaches, rocky coves, as well as hill top walks and rugged coastline. Most of the beaches nearby are quiet even in the busy times. There are inland beaches on remote estuaries and alongside local lakes. The coastal beaches are clean and pollution is rare.
WATER SPORTS - Water sports of all kinds can be found on many of the region's coastal areas. Many lakes and inland waterways offer the opportunity to canoe or sail.
WALKERS - The chance to enjoy the surrounding Armorique National park. A conservation area with superb countryside, lots of woodland walks, and footpaths or nearby coastal paths where you can enjoy superb scenery. Maps will be provided so you get to experience the best of the area. We have facilities available for storage of boots and drying of coats if necessary.
CYCLISTS - We have cycles available free of charge for your use during your stay, or if you wish to bring your own cycles we have storage facilities available. For the less ambitious you can cycle the quiet country lanes around our village. The lake at Brennilis is only a short distance away where you can cycle around the lake and enjoy the many picnic places to stop off and take in the peace and tranquillity of the surrounding National park. For the more experienced rider we will give advice on the best areas to visit.
ANGLERS - The lake at Heulgoat 10 minutes drive from us, is famous for carp and perch, also trout in the river Argent nearby which flows out of the lake. Brittany has 9,600km of river bank and shoreline for recreational fishing, a fisherman’s dream. We will give you help and information to guide you to the best places.
BIRD WATCHERS - With so much vegetation, and some of the local landscape quite unspoiled and untouched, wild with heather, and gorse on unfarmed areas around the local lake at Brennilis 5 minutes drive from us. Also the National Park stretching to the Crozon peninsular, with rugged coastline together with islands and open sea, some 300 maritime bird species as well as seals and dolphins can be spotted, so there is plenty of opportunity to enjoy your pastime. We have lots of information on the best locations.
GOLF - Brittany now has over 30 Golf courses. The course at Landerneau, 30 minutes drive, is certainly one of the most challenging courses in Brittany and ranked 13th in all France . Built on high ground, the course is thoughtfully laid out with a variety of holes, some of which are very long. The fairways tend to be tight and the rough can be punishing, but beginners can warm up on the 9 hole course before tackling the full 18. The course at Brest -Plouarzel Near Brest and close to the coast on the western tip of Finistère, this interesting course runs along a wooded valley, amongst granite stones. Its natural beauty has been enhanced by water hazards which have been built and must be crossed on holes 3 and 8. A challenge to any golfer and after an exhilarating game the friendly clubhouse awaits!
If you have a particular interest, hobby, or sport that you wish to pursue during your stay please advise us in advance and we will do our best to source the necessary.
