Welcome to Kergonan - Callac, 22
The country estate of Kergonan comprises a stone Longére with an attached cottage nestled in 15 acres of landscaped grounds in the heart of rural Brittany.
The south-facing house and cottage is a typical Breton longhouse, built approximately 100 years ago of mellow field stone.
Now, the natural exterior beauty of the stone combined with sympathetically renovated and restored interiors with modern conveniences, the overall feeling is of peace, quiet and tranquility, with lovely views of the surrounding countryside.
Bedrooms - Bedroom 1 is bright and sunny, has a 5ft double divan, hanging space, two chests of drawers, bedside tables and lights, velux window at front, standard window at rear and is carpeted. Pretty bedlinen supplied. Bedroom 2 is similar with two twin single divans.
Bathrooms - Downstairs there is a fully tiled shower room with washbasin, towel rail, cabinet and power point. There is a separate WC with window & washbasin, also fully tiled.
Kitchen - The well-appointed kitchen has a sink (with very hot water), worktops, cupboards, fridge, gas cooker, microwave, table & chairs and a window to the rear with views of trees and the lake.
Sitting Room - The Sitting room has a TV, 3 piece country suite, table, original Breton fireplace with wood burning stove and is carpeted. There are plenty of books, board games and information leaflets. The window to the front overlooks the fishpond, terrace and garden.
Entrance Hall - The Entrance hall, with stairs to first floor, has doors to the sitting room and the kitchen. There are also doors to the shower room and WC off the hall.
Bedlinen is included, also kitchen towel, tea towels and cloakroom towel. Personal towels are not supplied. The cottage is very clean and tidy on arrival.
Please note, we do not allow young children because of the proximity of the fishpond and lake. Although there is not a washing machine in the cottage, guests have use of the owners machine next door.
The Grounds
There is a lake with boat and summerhouse, woods, fields, gardens to relax in and enjoy the quietness of Kergonan.
There is a good variety of garden birds, also buzzards and kestrels, many species of butterflies and bees, wild flowers and occasionally small lizards sunning themselves on a rock.
During the summer, the only sound to be heard is the humming of insects & bees and fish plopping in the lake.
For several years now the gardens of Kergonan have become very well known in the area
The gardens have won first prizes in the village and a large section of Brittany known as Guerledan-Argoat Pays de Touristique.
In 2007 they achieved the accolade of winning First Prize in the Département of Cotes d’Armor.
Things to see and do
The village of Plourac'h is one mile away and has a fine example of a 16th Century church. There is a small mini-market and Bar, run by the Maire of Plourac'h, plus a boules pitch and tennis courts. The larger town of Callac, 8 miles distant, has 2 supermarkets, banks, PO, boulangerie, boucheries, pharmacies and a market on Wednesdays.
Kergonan is situated on the edge of the Armorique Parc Naturel, a huge area of natural beauty and wildlife, rocky outcrops, wooded valleys, rivers and gorges.
Huelgoat is only 15 miles away with its enormous rocks and pebbles larger than houses that looks as if a giant had been playing marbles. Plus it has rushing streams disappearing into crevices and re-appearing as calm fairy pools.
The beautiful coastline of Brittany with its quaint harbours and long sandy beaches are within half an hour’s drive on uncrowded roads. Minutes from Plestin-les-Greves is Loquirec, with its picture-perfect little fishing harbour, restaurants and beach and is arguably the finest in all Brittany.
Further north is the famous Pink Granite Coast, with its huge pink misshapen rocks jutting out to sea at Ploumanach and Tregestel. The medieval towns of Morlaix and Guingamp are close by while further south is Quimper and Concarneau. The large town of Lannion, has one of the biggest markets in Brittany on Thursdays and the Nantes-Brest Canal is popular with walkers, cyclists and canoeists.
There are many golf courses in Brittany, the nearest is at Carantec, on the coast.
